I would love to know the statistics of how many marketers actually use a social media style guide day-to-day. In my opinion, it seems like everyone knows the purpose of a style guide, but I’m not convinced that the majority of marketers recognize the value and immense support this type of document will offer their brand — because if that were the case, everyone would make this a top priority. This is not to say that many haven’t done the preliminary audience research to build a social strategy, but your social strategy will always be lacking context (especially for future employees) without a style guide. Note: Your social strategy and content plan […]
Facebook will soon be transitioning advertisers to campaign budget optimization (CBO), which automates budget optimization across the ad sets in a campaign. Originally scheduled to happen in September, the company pushed the move to February, giving advertisers more time to test it. “With this shift, the budget will be set at the campaign level, much like search campaigns are now,” said Michelle Morgan, director of client services at Clix Marketing, “Facebook will then, in real-time ‘optimize’ the campaign by giving budget to the ad-set that is performing best out of all within the campaign.” Morgan, who will be speaking about CBO and paid social tactics that drive conversions at SMX […]
Creating accurate projections of your future paid search spend is a really important part of your overall media buying plan. How often have you been asked, how many leads would we get if we increase media spend by X. Or considering that our conversion rate is 19% better year on year, how many more leads will we get this year. The truth is though that putting projections together is tedious and time consuming. So as we do with any boring, tedious but repeatable task, the developers at Clicteq (my employer) put together this advanced Google Ads script that creates forecasts for you based on past performance. How the script works […]
Bing is testing a new image carousel featuring a preview of the image accompanied by the page title and domain name on its main search results page. “We’re experimenting with it on a set of image answer queries,” the Bing Images team said. The test was spotted by digital marketing consultant Frank Sandtmann, who is based in Hamburg, Germany but noticed it showing in U.S. results. Left: Bing’s current image carousel. Right: The experimental image carousel with page title and domain name. Why we should care Displaying the source of the image may make it easier for users to get familiar with your brand and improve click-through rates from those […]
Fresh from rolling out its new reactions for group boards, Pinterest is now testing a whole other style of quick emoji response characters, this time for videos posted on the platform. As you can see here, this new version of reactions emojis – spotted by reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong within the back-end code of the Pinterest app – is more cartoonish and different to regular emoji characters. They also vary significantly from the emoji reactions Pinterest rolled out for group boards late last month. But they do look a little more stylistic, and you can imagine them being a winner on Pinterest, giving users another way to respond to […]
User-generated content is one of the best (and cheapest) forms of content marketing you can leverage for your branding strategy. No matter how small or new your brand, there are people out there talking about you, and you want to engage with these loyal, happy customers in order to keep them coming back, while also showing other prospects that you have a solid fan base behind you. People love talking about products which reflect their lifestyle through social platforms. User-generated content – the content that they create – helps to spread the word about your brand, and you can use it to your advantage. What is UGC? User-generated content (UGC) […]
Twitter’s looking to make it easier and faster to respond to a direct message by testing out emoji reactions which you would be able to attach to specific message. As you can see in this example, spotted by reverse engineering pro Jane Manchun Wong, the option would enable users to attach one of seven quick emoji responses to any given message in a stream. It’s similar to the functionality that Facebook added to Messenger back in 2017, which enables users to allocate an emoji response to each specific message. And given Twitter’s renewed focus on direct messaging of late, it makes sense for the platform to be looking at new […]
Google has announced that, from next year, it will stop allowing third-party pixel tracking on YouTube and instead revert marketers to its new Ads Data Hub, which it’s developed with leading industry organizations in order to build a better way to track modern web activity. As explained by Google: “Advertisers use different tools to understand the effectiveness of their ad campaigns. One type, called pixels, has played an important role across the web for over a decade, but was built for a world of single screens, not for the ways many people watch YouTube today. While more than 70% of time spent watching YouTube globally occurs on mobile devices, pixels […]

After first announcing that it was developing its own events tool in November last year, LinkedIn has now officially launched the option, providing the capacity for members to create and organize event pages, and facilitate in-person meet-ups via the professional social network. As you can see from the video, LinkedIn users will now be able to create their own event pages via the Community panel to the left side of the News Feed in the mobile app. As explained by LinkedIn: “You need to provide a description, a date and time, a venue, and then invite your connections using filters such as location, company, industry, and school. We also recommend […]
