Instagram Removes ‘Following’ Tab Which Let Users Keep Track of Others’ Activity via @MattGSouthern

ADVERTISEMENT Instagram has removed a section of its app which was referred to by many as a “stalker” tool. The ‘Following’ tab was an area that existed within the ‘Activity’ tab which let users see how people they’re following were engaging with content on Instagram. Similar to how the ‘Activity’ tab lists the recent likes and comments on your own content, the ‘Following’ tab listed which posts and comments were recently liked by people you’re following. Does the lack of definable “pin on the map” lead to a lack of exposure? I thought I’d break down some of the data from this year’s Google My Business Insights Study to find out, exclusively for this column. We whittled the original dataset of 45,000 business across 36 industries down to the seven industries […]

Google showing mobile ‘search by photos’ option in selected local verticals

Google showing mobile ‘search by photos’ option in selected local verticals

Google is starting to show a new option to “search by photos” box in certain local verticals. It appears only in mobile results right now and is distinct from “interesting finds” and “discover more places,” which are also photo-centric boxes in SERPs. The above result is for “Tacos near me.” It shows “search by photos” below the fold, below the local pack and other organic results. However, this wasn’t true in every instance; in a couple of cases the search by photos box appeared immediately […]
