Spotify’s Self-Serve Ad Studio Exits Beta to 18 Markets Worldwide via @SusanEDub

Despite short-term uncertainty in early trends of reduced audio consumption during COVID-19, Spotify has remained a winner the past few years in the audio streaming space. They are continuing to move forward with their ad model growth, particularly for brands that may not have the in-house capabilities of bigger name players who routinely crank out radio ads. On the heels of a 68% increase of active advertisers over the past year, their Ads Studio product is now expanding its geotargeting to over 18,000 locations – a large increase from the 2,000 it had. Google Ads, Twitter Amend COVID Ad Policies and Resources via @SusanEDub

This week, Google Ads was the latest to swiftly address advertisers who may be trying to drive sales by preying on users’ fears amid the pandemic. Their Inappropriate Content policy has been updated, disallowing content that: “…potentially capitalizes on or lacks reasonable sensitivity towards a natural disaster, conflict, death, public health emergency, or other tragic event.” The list of examples of what qualifies as this behavior includes price gouging, selling supplies in high demand but weak in quantity, and sensitive keywords to manipulate click through rate. Despite being managed within the same ad manager interface, the reality is that these two avenues are starting to have less in common. On the surface, it’s usually a tale of “Instagram skews younger.” That’s certainly true, but it’s interesting (and important!) to note that there are also vastly different goals for users on these platforms. These differences are key in how results play out in advertising on the platforms. In the past, Instagram was a placement box that was checked, and little further thought was given to it. The inventory was smaller, […]
