Pro Tip: Don’t add new services reactively

When a client asks to add a new service to their account, it’s usually an easy upsell… unless they’ve requested a service your agency doesn’t currently offer. That’s when many agency leaders fall into “panic” mode. Not wanting to lose the account, they automatically respond: “Yes, we can do that!” The problem? They have no idea how they’ll actually fulfill what they promised. This can lead to client and employee retention problems… and unprofitable work. For instance, that’s how a friend at a digital agency found herself in charge of a client’s office renovation and interior decorating. As an agency operations leader, I have some advice to help you reduce […]

Get to Know AI for Business: Natural Language Processing [Infographic]

Today, part of the continuing education required of marketers and others in business careers is learning about artificial intelligence. After all, it’s now nearly ubiquitous in software, smartphones, and online, and business tech without built-in AI has serious shortcomings compared to that with it. One powerful type of AI is natural language processing, or NLP. This process teaches computers to “use language like people” and is built into a variety of business tech, including chatbots, CRM platforms, and social media monitoring tools. And while it has a number of uses, some of the best-known reasons companies should invest in NLP-powered tech include improved customer service, automated writing corrections, and analysis […]

YouTube to Display Shopping Ads on the Home Feed and in Search Results via @MattGSouthern

Google is bringing shopping ads to YouTube’s home feed and search results, letting advertisers tap into users’ shopping intent. Users are increasingly turning to videos to help them decide what to buy during the holiday season, Google says, which is why it will benefit advertisers to have their shopping ads displayed on YouTube: “Video has also become a favorite research tool for holiday shoppers. Nearly two-thirds of shoppers say online video has given them ideas and inspiration for their purchase. And more than 90% of these folks say that they’ve discovered new products and brands via YouTube.” YouTube users will now see visual shopping ads on the home feed and […]

In order to take advantage of the greater availability, Google Ads is rolling out the following features. Multi-Country Feeds Advertisers can reach more holiday shoppers around the world with multi-country feeds. These allow for easy targeting of multiple countries that share the same language. For example, if you upload product information in English for the United States, those products may be automatically available to show in other English-speaking countries. Advertisers will have to set their own shipping and location targeting […]

Google Rolls Out New Extensions for YouTube Ads via @MattGSouthern

Google is introducing new extensions for YouTube ads, which are similar to the extensions for search ads. Like Google’s search ad extensions, the extensions for video campaigns invite users to take additional action beyond the traditional ad click. Specifically, YouTube ad extensions can be used to direct users to a physical store location, submit lead generation forms, and other calls-to-actions. Extensions are displayed directly under the video, as shown below: Google also notes that call-to-action extensions will become available for 6-second bumper ads later this year. Currently, they are only available for TrueView in-stream and non-skippable video ads. The call-to-action extensions available for TrueView for action ads will continue to […]

12 Content Curation Tools Every Marketer Needs

“Curation” is one of those words that’s always conveyed coolness to me. Take, for example, the job of curating art for a gallery, or curating music for a soundtrack. Cool, right? Content curation is just as much fun — and just as important. But where do you get started on content curation? In this blog post, you’ll find a brief explanation of what it is, why it’s important, and a few tools you can use. What is content curation? For the uninitiated, content curation consists of finding material relevant to your audience from a variety of sources, and sharing it strategically through your communication channels. Uber Eats readies ad sales for restaurants

Uber Eats readies ad sales for restaurants

Ads are coming to Uber Eats. TechCrunch reported that Uber is seeking an executive to help develop and run a new ads business. Under pressure. This makes sense for several reasons. Restaurants have been conditioned by other ad platforms, including Google and Yelp, to pay for placement and exposure. And Uber is under significant pressure from investors to generate more revenue from more sources amid growing skepticism about the company’s capacity to turn a profit. Uber Eats competes primarily with GrubHub, DoorDash and Postmates – although Google My Business also offers food ordering, as does Yelp. According to one estimate, Uber Eats has 20% share of all restaurant delivery sales […]

What to Do When Google Is Ranking the Wrong Page for Your Keywords via @AdamHeitzman

It’s typically a good thing when you find out your website is ranking for a keyword you’ve been targeting, right? But what happens when, upon further investigation, you learn that the page you wanted to rank for a particular keyword isn’t the page that Google wanted to rank? (And that it’s another page on your site altogether?) Whether the page is irrelevant or just not the best fit in your eyes, means that all the traffic that’s visiting your site from this newfound keyword isn’t going where you want. This might result in less conversions or a higher bounce rate than previously anticipated. But don’t worry – this problem is […]

The Rise of Advertising on Ecommerce Marketplaces: 5 Tips to Get Ahead via @ebkendo

We all know, it’s no secret. Amazon has come to disrupt budgets, raise expectations on conversion rates, and call attention to the quality of what we get for a “click.” (Massive amounts of first-party data is a heck of thing, isn’t it?) So, instead of rehashing what we already know about the size of the impact to date, let’s pull back a few more levels and take a bigger picture look at: What this means. Who is joining the party. What you should think about as we head into 2020. Amazon isn’t the first or only marketplace to do advertising – this is just a signal of what is to […]
