New Report Looks at The Impact of Leaving Old Social Accounts and Content Active [Infographic]

When was the last time you checked through your old social media profiles, and the content that you’ve posted online over time? These days, most people have at least one old social media account which remains active online, including your images, posts, etc. But you’ve likely forgotten about it – it’s that MySpace account that you had years ago, that Tumblr fanfic account from your teen years, etc. But what if someone went looking for info on you, say, a potential employer? What would they find on those old accounts? This is an increasing concern in the modern, digital age, and with so many of our thoughts and experiences being […]

Meta descriptions and branding have the most influence on search clickthrough, survey finds

Meta descriptions, followed by brand name and page title, have the largest influence over whether users click through on a search result, according to a study conducted by Ignite Visibility. Two-thirds of survey respondents also said that more ads would make them want to use Google less, and the majority agreed that Google is improving its search results by including featured snippets and other SERP features. The survey polled over 500 participants aged 25–60. Source: Ignite Visibility. The biggest influence on clickthrough. SMX Overtime: Here’s how multi-location brands can manage their local listings

SMX Overtime: Here’s how multi-location brands can manage their local listings

During my “Local presence management for multi-location brands” session at SMX East, attendees asked questions about review rankings, duplicate listings and pages and local franchise challenges so I wanted to take the time after the event. 1. I see a lot of companies with a small number of reviews ranking higher than other local companies with 100s of reviews. Both are local. If reviews are 75% why would a company with 5 reviews outrank a company with 100 reviews? Some multi-location businesses that have fewer reviews than another multi-location business may still rank higher for a few reasons.  The first is proximity or location. There are certain categories where the […]

Facebook Provides New Resources to Help Gaming Creators Manage their Communities

As Facebook pushes further into gaming, and game streaming in particular, The Social Network is also being forced to address issues with trolling and other types of anti-social behavior which have, unfortunately, become common staples in some corners of the community. Though some of that is due to varying tolerance within different groups, and the unclear boundaries between each. As explained by Facebook: “While our Community Standards protect against the most egregious harms like hate speech and terrorism, sometimes all it takes is one person being rude, mean or simply disruptive to ruin a conversation for everyone. And what may be considered competitive banter in one streaming community, might be considered toxic […]
