Facebook Launches Previews of Upcoming Super Bowl Ad

Last December, Facebook revealed that it had booked a slot to run its first ever Super Bowl ad in 2020, which would focus on the connective benefits of Facebook groups. And this week, in the lead-up to the event, Facebook has released a series of previews for its Super Bowl ads, which will feature comedian Chris Rock, and look set to focus on niche communities, and how Facebook brings them together. Though the full concept remains a little unclear – for example, there’s a scene with Chris Rock launching a rocket with a group of kids. 10 Email Marketing Tips to Boost B2B Sales [Infographic]

While social media networks have become an increasingly important part of our broader interactive process, email marketing remains a key element in any effective digital strategy, and strategic utilization of email, in line with shifting consumer expectations, can be a major difference-maker in your approach. But you have to tune into the trends to ensure that you move in line with such – for example, with more businesses shifting to an increasingly personalized email approach, that then raises the expectation for other brands, and if your business is failing to move in-step, your emails will quickly look outdated. Segmentation, personalization, ensuring your emails are mobile-friendly – these are all key […]

Do You Know What Your Customers Really Want? [Infographic]

We can all recall at least one horrible customer service experience in our lives – but how often do we complain to someone who actually has the capability to do something about it? According to a recent report, as many as 96% of us will say something about a negative brand experience to our friends, without speaking to anyone within the organization we are upset with. And with that being the case, how can business owners determine what their customers really want, in order to avoid poor customer service in the first place? There are some key elements to building a more effective customer feedback loop, and some common factors that […]

Botify partnership with Microsoft brings real-time content indexing to Bing

Enterprise SEO platform Botify announced a partnership with Bing last week that will bring near real-time indexing to brand websites through the Bing content submission API pilot. The offering, dubbed “FastIndex” (part of Botify Activation), will feed Bing new content and be allowed to exceed the 10,000 URL limit currently set for the API. Best suited for very large sites with lots of content updates. Adrien Menard co-founder & CEO Botify said by phone that there’s no money changing hands between Bing and Botify in this arrangement. Bing is testing the API with a few large partners, although Menard says this relationship is unique to his knowledge. Menard also said that […]

Google’s January 2020 Core Update: Has the Dust Settled?

Google’s January 2020 Core Update: Has the Dust Settled?

On January 13th, MozCast measured significant algorithm flux lasting about three days (the dotted line shows the 30-day average prior to the 13th, which is consistent with historical averages) … That same day, Google announced the release of a core update dubbed the January 2020 Core Update (in line with their recent naming conventions) … On January 16th, Google announced the update was “mostly done,” aligning fairly well with the measured temperatures in the graph above. Temperatures settled down after the three-day spike … It appears that the dust has mostly settled on the January 2020 Core Update. Interpreting core updates can be challenging, but are there any takeaways we […]

How BERT is helping SEO agencies focus on collaboration strategies

How BERT is helping SEO agencies focus on collaboration strategies

With the release of BERT in November 2019, SEO agencies have had to look more closely at the way they review a client’s content and keyword research with an overhaul mentality rather than small corrective measures after some of the previous updates. This is particularly so when considering the searcher’s intent and their client’s path to complete desired onsite actions. What is the Google BERT update? The focus of the BERT algorithm remains, as ever on good quality content. However, the thing that makes BERT different from the rest of the Google family of algorithm updates is its understanding of context. BERT enables Google to determine relevance. It focuses on […]

5 Ways Working Remotely Changed the Way I Think About Teamwork

5 Ways Working Remotely Changed the Way I Think About Teamwork

For the last three years I’ve been an architect on the Hipchat team working remotely, with the rest of my team working far, far away from me in San Francisco and Austin. People talk a lot about remote work these days, but as with most things, you never truly know until you’ve experienced it. I’ve learned quite a bit about remote teamwork along the way as an architect and developer. Here are some of the highlights: 1. Put people over product. In just over a year, my team went from a close, eight-person unit to over a hundred people. That’s a lot of growth in a little time. As more […]

Why Refusing to Discuss Failure Erodes a Culture of Growth

Why Refusing to Discuss Failure Erodes a Culture of Growth

Have you ever sat in a meeting where a project was described as a success, yet all the details of failure that led to that success were left out? Alternatively, have you ever watched while data was cherry picked to make things seem rosier than they actually are? These are common embodiments of a very common, yet little known, phenomenon called “Success Theater”. Success theater is, at its core, an informal operating system that says to employees: “you’re expected to win, and you should only discuss wins. Failures need not be exemplified.” More concretely, success theater describes “the efforts that we make to make things look good, even if actual […]

45 Emerging Technology Stats to Know in 2020

45 Emerging Technology Stats to Know in 2020

As a writer who loves covering emerging technology and human being, I’m surrounded by technology. Each morning, I wake up to my Amazon Echo’s alarm and ask Alexa about the weather. On my train ride home from work, I’m taking Snapchat selfies using AR filters. When I get to my house, I ask Alexa to turn the lights to a specific hue. Then I ask my smart TV to launch Netflix or play a basic VR game on my Google Cardboard. Before bed, I might check my fitness levels with a smart scale or use my toothbrush’s app to figure out what areas of my mouth I’m missing. It’s safe […]

What local SEOs should focus on in 2020

What local SEOs should focus on in 2020

Predictions are cheap; strategic and tactical advice is much more valuable. To discover what leading local SEOs are thinking about in 2020, I asked a number of local experts to offer their top three recommendations or pieces of advice for colleagues this year. I was curious if there was going to be any consensus advice. Beyond the fact that everyone needs to focus on Google My Business (and the repeated injunction to “test, test, test”) there really wasn’t any. The following four sets of recommendations, from GatherUp’s Mike Blumethal, Moz’s Miriam Ellis, RioSEO’s Krystal Taing and LocalSEOGuide’s Dan Leibson, illustrate the range of opinions and diverse tactics that constitute local […]
