Twitter Releases New Political Ad Policy Following Announcement of Ban on Political Ads

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey was heavily praised last month when he announced, in no uncertain terms, that Twitter would ban all political advertising on its platform. (@jack) October 30, 2019 This followed a speech from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in which he defended his platform’s decision not to subject political ads to fact-checking, under the guise of ‘voice and free expression‘ – i.e. letting the people decide what’s true and what’s not from political candidates. By comparison, Dorsey’s stance was a welcome […]

A Guide to Facebook’s Creator Studio

A Guide to Facebook’s Creator Studio

Interest in Facebook’s Creator Studio management tool sparked up back in August when Facebook added Instagram post scheduling to its available functions. But there’s a lot more to Creator Studio than just scheduling – and recently, Facebook published a new guide book on Creator Studio, which covers all of its aspects and functions, and could help you make the most of the Facebook management app. The guide book was actually created back in July, though it hasn’t been heavily promoted. Social media expert Matt Navarra shared a link to the guide this week – here’s a quick look at what inside. The user guide starts off from the most basic […]

WSJ report about Google search manipulation gets a lot wrong

WSJ report about Google search manipulation gets a lot wrong

No one would argue that Google is a pure, shining force for good in the world. But neither do we agree that it’s the corrupt entity portrayed in a highly charged Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article that appeared Friday. Search Engine Land will offer more perspective on the WSJ article in separate pieces next week. However, upon initial review of the assertions, and discussion with members of the SEO community including several people interviewed for the story, we believe that many of the claims are inaccurate or misunderstand what’s going on behind the scenes. The WSJ accuses Google of manipulating search results to appease advertisers and favor big business in […]

Local business study finds 0% of site traffic coming from email, paid media

BrightLocal has just released a “Google Analytics for Local Businesses Study.” It looked at “anonymous data of 11,016 local businesses in the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK” in an effort to establish benchmarks across a number of categories such as traffic sources, monthly users, page views, session duration, bounce rates and others. The data were collected between September 2017 and December 2018. The local businesses in the study were “BrightLocal users that opted in with active connections to Google Analytics.” It’s not clear if all of these are small businesses (SMB) or whether this dataset includes franchises and enterprises with multiple locations. It likely skews SMB. Just under 500 […]

A framework for SEO success with structured data
