The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) went into effect on January 1, 2020, and businesses have been working to make sure they are in compliance before the window for litigation opens on July 1. The third-party ads so far all appear to be connected to the businesses themselves. Food ordering is for the restaurant itself — although Capper points out the ad potentially redirects an order that might otherwise go directly to the restaurant. Groupon ads (below) take you to a […]

One of the first things you’re taught in your Introduction to Marketing class is that marketing can be best explained using the marketing mix — also known as the four P’s. They are — and say ’em with me, because if you took that class, you know these four words by heart: Product Price Place Promotion One of the first things you’re taught in your first marketing internship or job, however, is that marketing entails so much more than can be simplified in a four-section marketing mix matrix. Still, there’s an undeniable benefit of marketing teams organizing their work into the marketing mix framework. When you stray too far away […]
Posted by Dr-Pete Re-imagining MozCon hasn’t been easy. I won’t lie — I’ll miss seeing so many of you in person, and, yes, I’ll miss the magic of the big stage. We’re working hard to make this year special, including leveling up our speakers for their remote sessions. The list of advertisers keeps growing — 500 and counting, according to Sleeping Giants. Much has been written about whether the advertiser boycott of Facebook Ads that kicked off today will amount to anything. It may depend on your expectations. Most brands want to see action to create a cleaner, safer environment for their brands. Some can take part with little financial sacrifice and ride the positive PR at Facebook’s expense. Still, other brands are also using the opportunity to pressure test the true benefit of Facebook and even the larger social media ecosystem for their brands. Invisible to most users. From a user perspective, the boycott is essentially invisible. […]
