Bing’s Web Crawler Goes Evergreen, Improves JavaScript Crawling via @MattGSouthern

Microsoft announced today at Pubcon that Bing is adopting Microsoft Edge to run JavaScript and render webpages with Bingbot. In addition, Bingbot will be continually updated to the latest version of Microsoft Edge going forward, making it evergreen like Googlebot. Bingbot rendering web pages using Microsoft Edge on Chromium creates compatibility across web crawlers, ensuring all JavaScript frameworks can be supported. Fabrice Canel, Principal Program Manager of Microsoft-Bing, states: “By adopting Microsoft Edge, Bingbot will now render all web pages using the same underlying web platform technology already used today by Googlebot, […]

Bingbot goes evergreen

Bingbot goes evergreen

Bingbot will be evergreen as Bing adopts the Chromium-based Edge browser to render web pages and run JavaScript, Microsoft announced on Wednesday. Why we should care Since the new, evergreen Bingbot is based off of the Chromium platform — the same platform as Google’s Chrome browser and Googlebot — SEOs and developers should have an easier time getting their pages crawled by both search engines without having to research or troubleshoot for each particular crawler. More on the announcement Bing’s transition to Edge will be occurring over the next few months. The company may change Bingbot’s user agent to allow rendering on some sites. The next version of Microsoft Edge […]

Google to Use Machine Learning to Manage Ad Frequency When Cookies Are Missing via @MattGSouthern

Google announced it will soon be using machine learning to manage ad frequency when third-party cookies are missing. This change will first roll out in the coming weeks to Display & Video 360, though Google has plans to bring this capability to its display offerings in Google Ads as well. Google is rolling out this change as part of a larger effort to improve user privacy while still being able to serve ads in a way that’s effective for publishers and marketers. Usually, when third-party cookies are blocked or restricted, advertisers no longer have the ability to limit the number of times someone sees an ad. That means someone who’s […]

Moz launches Domain Analysis, free tool for SEO metrics

Domain Analysis, a free tool from search marketing analytics company Moz launched Wednesday. The website provides an overview of SEO metrics for any domain. Why we should care We’re all marketers here, and this is of course a marketing tool for Moz. But that doesn’t mean it’s not useful. The free tool doesn’t offer the depth of data available in the paid versions of Moz tools — and has plenty of calls to action to get more complete data in the paid version — but you’ll get a high-level look at a range of SEO metrics for your site — or your competitors’ sites — to identify potential SEO opportunities. How to Use Controversy to Get High-Quality Links via @tonynwright
