Facebook is looking to move on from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, with the Federal Court this week approving its agreement with the FTC, that it made last July, which will see the company pay a $5 billion fine and implement strict new data privacy measures. As explained by Facebook’s Chief Privacy Officer Michael Protti: “On Thursday, a federal court officially approved the agreement we reached with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) last July. This concludes the FTC’s investigation that began after the events surrounding Cambridge Analytica in 2018. […] With this agreement now in place, executive leaders at the company, including our CEO, will now certify our compliance with it quarterly […]
While the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are far-reaching, it’s impossible, at this stage, to fully understand just how significant the impact of coronavirus will be on how we live, how we interact, and how we engage with businesses moving forward. Some trends are immediate – increased panic buying in supermarkets, hand sanitizer selling out, home gym equipment on the rise. But over time, those short-term shifts evolve, and the trends that are now being established could actually be longer-term, particularly among younger, more impressionable demographic groups that are still developing key elements in their approach to life. Which is why this research is interesting – digital analytics provider Perksy has […]

First off, Facebook is adding a new Knowledge Library where businesses will be able to keep company resources on the platform. As explained by Facebook: “Knowledge Library is a single place to create, store and share static content, like working from home advice or HR and expenses policies, so employees can discover and easily access the information they need at home or on the go.” Facebook says that the average employee wastes over nine hours per week searching for critical […]

This week, LinkedIn has shared some new insights on both fronts, and there are some interesting trends of note among the more obvious shifts. First off, as noted, LinkedIn has seen a massive spike in company page posts mentioning COVID-19. In terms of engagement, LinkedIn […]

Google will now require that all advertisers provide official documentation confirming who they are and where they’re based as part of a major expansion of its ad transparency requirements. As explained by Google: “In 2018, we announced a new identity verification policy for political advertisers. The policy requires all advertisers that want to run election ads on our platforms go through a verification program to confirm their identity. We display that identity in the ad unit so that users can learn more about the election ads they see on Google’s platforms. Since introducing this program, we’ve verified political advertisers in 30 countries. And now, to provide greater transparency and equip users […]

Twitter fans, rejoice. The platform is currently testing a new display format for retweets, which would incorporate both retweets and retweets with comments into a single, overall retweet count. As you can see in this tweet, shared by user Bruce Floyd, in this new display format, all of your various retweets would be incorporated into one data point. Simple, easy. This has been an annoyance for many Twitter users over time – up till now, Twitter has actually considered a retweet with comment to be a unique tweet in its own right, so it deliberately hasn’t included them in your total retweet count. Many have suggested that this is likely a […]
