20+ Social Media Tools That Offer Discounts for Nonprofits

Doing good takes more than just goodwill, and nonprofits know this better than anybody. If you don’t have the right tools at your disposal, you can only do as good as your own resources allow, and for nonprofits that can be very limiting. The good news is that you’re not alone in doing good. People might not be invested in your cause, specifically, but there’s still an understanding that nonprofits need their communities. To help build bridges to communities of all stakeholders, social media tools also try and do good by nonprofits. In addition to social media tools that offer free trials, there’s a range of apps out there which offer […]

Activist Investor Group Buys Up Twitter Stock, Seeks to Oust CEO Jack Dorsey

Activist Investor Group Buys Up Twitter Stock, Seeks to Oust CEO Jack Dorsey

Could Twitter be set for a shake-up? This week, Bloomberg has reported that investment management firm Elliott Management Corp. has purchased a significant stake in Twitter, and now plans to use its holding to push for changes at the company, including, most notably, the replacement of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who’s also a co-founder of the platform. As summarized by Vox: “Elliott has acquired about $1 billion worth of Twitter shares, which means it has a sizable stake in Twitter, but nothing close to control of the company. Now, the firm wants to use that stake to replace four Twitter board members with its own nominees, who would then presumably pressure […]

Toxic Backlinks – How They Hurt SEO, and How to Get Rid of Them

Toxic Backlinks – How They Hurt SEO, and How to Get Rid of Them

Backlinks are important to SEO. When another site links to your site, a backlink is created. If, for example, a brand finds one of your blog posts that’s helpful for their customers, they might link to it. That backlink, as Moz puts it, is “vote of confidence” in your content. Backlinks are important to SEO because search engines see all of those votes of confidence as evidence that your content is valuable. If lots of sites link back to yours, search engines are more likely to surface your content in search results, improving your ranking for the topics linked to. Earning backlinks is an essential part of off-site SEO, and […]

Facebook’s Rolling Out a New Design for Messenger Which Will See The Removal of the Discover Tab

Facebook’s Rolling Out a New Design for Messenger Which Will See The Removal of the Discover Tab

After first announcing its intention to simplify Messenger back in 2018, Facebook is now close to launching the next stage, with TechCrunch reporting that The Social Network is rolling out an updated layout for Messenger which eliminates the ‘Discover tab’, taking it down to simply ‘Chats’ and ‘People’ as your in-app navigation options. As you can see in this example, provided by social strategist Jeff Higgins, there are now only two tabs, which puts the focus squarely on your private conversations – here’s a shot of the current Messenger layout for reference: As noted, that aligns with Facebook’s push to make Messenger more focused. Back in 2018, then chief of […]

YouTube Adds New ‘Creator Liason’ to Improve Relationships With Creators

YouTube Adds New ‘Creator Liason’ to Improve Relationships With Creators

Over the last year, YouTube has been working to improve its relationship with creators, after various decisions in the past which have negatively impacted monetization, distribution and more. Those efforts have seen significant improvements in its systems, and have been largely welcomed by the creative community – but then, earlier this month, the platform announced that it generated some $15 billion in ad revenue for 2019, up 36% from the previous year. That’s obviously a great result for YouTube, but creators have rightfully questioned where their cut of that huge chunk of change might be. While the systems have improved, if YouTube is generating billions off their work, there’s seemingly more […]

Facebook Adds New Listing of Political Branded Content to Highlight Paid Memes

Facebook Adds New Listing of Political Branded Content to Highlight Paid Memes

After announcing new rules around the use of memes by political candidates last week, Facebook has now sought to add an extra level of transparency to such usage by providing a real-time list of political branded content on Facebook and Instagram, which anybody can view in CrowdTangle at any time. Facebook was forced to take action on the use of memes after US Democratic Presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg partnered with a group called ‘Meme 2020’ in order to commission the creation of memes by various Instagram influencers to help boost his messaging. But while Facebook did implement new rules around the usage of memes by candidates, it also refused to add […]

Teenager Created Fake Political Candidate Account on Twitter, Got it Verified

I mean, it’s not a good look, no matter how you view it. In a blow for Twitter’s enhanced election security measures, CNN has this week reported that a teenager was recently able to create a fake political candidate account, using a fake photo, then get it verified by Twitter, adding to the candidate’s legitimacy. As explained by CNN: “Earlier this month, [Andrew] Walz’s account received a coveted blue checkmark from Twitter as part of the company’s broader push to verify the authenticity of many Senate, House and gubernatorial candidates currently running for office. But there’s just one problem: Walz does not exist. The candidate is the creation of a […]
