Getting more traffic to your website is key goal for many businesses, and understanding how you can boost referral traffic is an important aspect of any digital strategy. In more recent times, social media has become a bigger focus in this respect – but as many have found, social is not always a great driver of referral traffic, even if social platforms are highly utilized, and serve alternate purpose. So what is the best driver of web traffic? That’s what this new report from Alexa sought to find out. The team from Alexa gathered data on the sources of web traffic to 450,000 domains, and then they categorized the domains […]
In the modern, connected era, brands have access to more consumer insights than ever before, while consumers have more ways in which to share their opinions, and be heard by the businesses they deal with. That’s changed the way many organizations operate, in various capacities – but importantly, it’s also changed what customers expect, in regards to engagement, response and subsequent action from the brands they buy from. This new paradigm is the focus of the latest research report from Snap Inc. – Snap recently partnered with the team from CASSANDRA in order to seek opinions from Gen Z consumers around what they expect, in terms of innovation, from the brands […]
As it seeks to further enhance its eCommerce discovery options, Pinterest is this week launching a new, augmented reality ‘try on’ feature which will enable users to get an idea of what certain lipstick shades might look like on their lips. As you can see in this example, the new process will add a ‘Try it’ button to selected lipstick Pins. Tap on it, and your phone will open the reverse-facing camera with a color shade slider along the bottom, which will then enable you to virtually see what you’ll look like in each lipstick shade. Once you find a shade that suits, Pinterest will then highlight relevant product Pins for […]
Marking Data Privacy Day, Facebook has this week outlined it’s evolving efforts to provide users with more control over how their personal data is accessed, and how they can maintain awareness and control over such to avoid potential misuse. In a post written by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook outlines three key areas of improvement – and while none of the features shared in the post are new, as such, they do point to the company’s ongoing effort to provide more transparency over such process. First off, Facebook highlights its updated Privacy Check-Up tool, which it first announced earlier this month. The new version of Privacy Check-Up has been split into four […]

The first #SMTLive Twitter chat of 2020 (and the new decade) was one to remember. Our topic of conversation was “Discussing Social Media Marketing Goals for 2020”. We had a lively chat about personal growth, professional goals, current trends in social media and helpful marketing strategies. As promised, I’m here to share some highlights from our conversation. We covered a lot, but there were two conversation topics, in particular, that stood out to me as noteworthy. I asked: What popular social media marketing trends do you expect will impact your business in 2020? What are best practices for improving engagement and brand awareness in 2020? Everyone responded by sharing current and popular […]
Many organizations want to work with influencers to gain attention and drive results, but few have the budget to make it happen. When working with a non-existent or limited budget, you need to identify what your company can uniquely offer to influencers instead of always paying for their support. The goal here isn’t to take advantage of influencers, as I’m a big proponent of reasonably paying them for the value they’re able to provide. Instead, my advice is to find a mix of approaches for incentivizing influencers so that these partnerships don’t require a budget, or are less costly. Recently, for example, the Clorox Company set up an advisory board comprised […]
While other social platforms rise and fall, Facebook, seemingly despite various controversies, has continued to add more daily and monthly active users as time goes on – and The Social Network shows no sign of any significant slow-down on the immediate horizon. Of course, that’s not the complete picture. While Facebook has continued to add more users in developing markets, some have suggested that the time people spend on Facebook, on average, has been in decline in recent years. Facebook’s last official update on time spent in its apps came in 2016, when it reported that users were spending 50 minutes per day using Facebook, Instagram and/or Messenger – though that’s not Facebook-specific. The […]
Last December, Facebook revealed that it had booked a slot to run its first ever Super Bowl ad in 2020, which would focus on the connective benefits of Facebook groups. And this week, in the lead-up to the event, Facebook has released a series of previews for its Super Bowl ads, which will feature comedian Chris Rock, and look set to focus on niche communities, and how Facebook brings them together. Though the full concept remains a little unclear – for example, there’s a scene with Chris Rock launching a rocket with a group of kids.
